JOB Questions

April 26, 2007

What can we learn about humanity?

That humanity sins even when they have already been punsihed or have not yet been.  Even JOB after awhile changed his mind  about not cursing to god.  After all that happened he was truthful and never cursed God.  But he evenualy changed that whole aspect.  Some people think that if you do bad, bad you will recieve in return.  Or vice versa with good.  But the truth is there is no reward system.  What happens happens and humanity needs to learn that.

What can we learn about God?

That god is soemtimes not sure of himself.  When he told Satin that he could go do all of those things to JOB to prove himself, he must have been worried about not being able to compete with him.  God has power over all of the universe, and Job, never cursing his name, did nothing wrong and only want to live for God and he recieved all this tragidy on his life.  God must be competive because otherwise he would not of let Satin “trick” him into doing that to Job, God was trying to prove that he, and his worshipers were better.  That Job would never curse him no matter what.

What can we learn about relationships?

That realtionships weather it deal with a wife or the realtionship between you and your kids, that even if you loose everything you still have your family or friends. And if you loose all of your friends and family, you can still trust in god.  That god is the only true  realionship that you will have.   All the other ones matter, but should be in second.  We know that we will not be with the others ones forever.

What can we learn about Job and his family?

That his wife just wanted him to be happy and not have all of these bad things happening to him, and obviously she didnt completly trust in god, she told  Job to curse  him and have everything stop.   His first set of kids were drinkers and we sacrafieced animals for them everyday so they could be forgiven of there sins.  And there were like insest, the boys would invite the sisters over to their houses.   The second set of kids were great, the girls were the most beautiful girls in the world, and he shared his money will all of them equaly.

Animal Farm Ideas

April 12, 2007

A time in my life that I can recall that I felt like I was being dictated by “pigs” is in my Elementary school years. Whenever the older kids would tells us something, all of the younger kids believed them. We would always say “Oh, well they are the big kids in the school, they know everything.” They would tell us crazy things like how the slide was haunted and ideas like that were put into our heads. So for the next couple years of my Elementary school years, I had believed that we had a haunted slide.

So as you can see there is a resemblance between what happened to me then, and in Animal Farm. Both the pigs and I were both mindlessly follow who we thought to be the higher authority, who we looked up to, who we believed were always right. But in the same since that still does happen to me today, if my parents, or a pastor, or another higher authority’s says something to me, I am more likely to believe it. Since it came from them, they are likely to tell me the truth, but that isn’t always the case.

Trial Reflections

March 19, 2007

The trail that we held all of last week there were things that I liked, and disliked about it. I thought the fact about the whole class working together (well in two different groups) was a good idea, even though we had to read books I think that it helped us comprehend the book deeper than we would of before. Some of the cross-examining got pretty exciting, but others were dull and uninteresting. Some books were hard to understand the actual American dream in the book, and if it were alive or dead. I didn’t like the fact that we had not gotten together to go threw everything. I think that many people did miss the object of the trail, to test whether or not the dream was alive or dead in American LITERATURE. Many people referred it to something that had nothing to do with a book they were reading, more as and event that had taken place more than a hundred of years before, like the dream of pilgrims coming to America. Many people did not do there best and you could tell, but those who did, you could tell by there enthusiasm and acknowledgment of what they were reading.

I do think that if I could change anything I would have chosen a different topic. Rather than having us protest against the American Dream I think that we should have had something we have to deal with a lot. Something that would really get everyone stirred up. To make things in the class more interesting. During our trail many of the times I thought the questioning was never going to end, many times it disinterested me. It was hard for me to get up and question people especially when I was intimidated by the person I was going up there with. Not only do I hate talking in front of a class full of people we also had other classes, cameras, and teachers. I think I should have practiced doing it in front of other people first, rather than just reciting it myself. But all in all I do think that trail was a worthwhile project, I liked the idea of it, I just think that if we would have made the topic something with interesting we would have gotten a better response when in trail.

make-up for blog #2

February 22, 2007

Scout, Jem, and Dills childhood world isn’t very realistic.  They think that everything is perfect, and they really don’t have a grasp on anything that is happening in thier surroundings.  I think that they relate to Boo Radley in the since that they all seem really innocent, and people just judge them too quickly.  I think that Boo Radley is a representation of innoccence in the book.  He never does anything to anyone, just like a mocking bird.  It would be a sin to Boo Radley, people just believe he is mean based on what they have herd.

Makeup. Was Scout stopping the mad a symbol, or a accident from Harper Lee.

February 19, 2007

Scout I think is way to young to understand that she is right in the middle of a mob. It might come off as Harper Lee made a mistake in writing the book the putting that in there. But I really do think that is is just a symbol of her innocence. If you think back when you were that young would you really understand what was going on? And to add on to that she lives in a town were none of that usually happens. They are suppose to be the nicest town, they are suppose to be all Christans. Then when Scout talks to Mr.Cunningham and makes the whole mob leave due to her talking to him like nothing was wrong. Just talking to him like a person should really talk to a person. Maybe it made them realize that they should not be acting the way they were, especally in front of children.

Scout is no doubt a smart kid, she might have been able to know what was really happening when the mob was in front of the jail. If people are all standing around yelling and screaming and Scout just desides to talk to Mr. Cunningham, and act like nothing is going on. Just talking to him abou his son, asking how he is doing. Then they just walking away because the kids are there. In most cases I don’t think a determined mob would stop for little kids.

Both ways are possible, it could really be a symbol of Scouts innocence, or it could just be that Harper Lee didn’t write that part of the book the way he should have. I think maybe Harper Lee didn’t put as much thought into it, and just made it look like Scout was just a symbol of innocence and that when the mob realized it, they backed off. They realized that what they were doing was not what they should be, and that they should not try anything in front of children.

Compare and Contrast.

February 15, 2007

Compare and Contrast Tom and Mayella. Use specific examples from the book to support your answer and draw a conclusion in your third paragraph answering this question clearly: Are Tom and Mayella more alike than the people of Maycomb would like to think or are they as far apart as the percieved gap between whites and blacks in 1930’s Maycomb?

Tom and Mayella are similar in many ways, they both represent innocence. They both live amoung pigs, and are looked down apoun from white people. Both Tom and Mayella are just victoms to other people. Tom didn’t commit the crime he was accused of against Mayella. He did not beat and rape her, he just felt sorry for her. A black felt sorry for a white. That hard to believe, well I guess it was. Tom just tried to do what no one else would help around their lard, things not fit for a woman to be doing. He did all of it for not a penny. Mayella also is just a victim in the book, her dad beat her, and she was so lonely she turned to something she knew was not right, something she knew would disgrace her, she came onto a black man. Her father being so ashamed of her, just beats her sinceless. Then makes her blame it on Tom. Both being innocent. All Tom wanted to do was help Mayella and all Mayella wanted was to be wanted.

Even though Tom and Mayella are alike in many ways, they are also different in many ways. While doing the trial Tom told the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. Mayella on the otherhand did not. She only did as her father asked her to do, lie to the court. Tom only wanted to do things that were in other peoples best intrest, well of course besides getting arrested. He worked in the field all day, then on the way home helped Mayella and then did all of his chores at home. Mayella only looked out for what was good for her. She didn’t care what would happen to Tom, she wanted the shame away from her. She did not want to be reminded of what she did everytime she saw Tom walk by her house everyday. So she had to put him away, away from her. Tom also has a wife, kids, friends. Mayella doesn’t have anyone besides her dad that rapes and beats her, and the kids that run around the house and make chaos for her everyday.

Inconclusion Mayella and Tom are more alike then the people in Maycomb seem to think. They both live the same type of lifestyle, they both live amoung the pigs. Mayella lives amoung the pigs, she lives the same way they do. So what makes them so different? Just the color of their skin? I think if the people in Maycomb would just stop treating all black people like dirt, and actually treat them as humans beings just like everyone else, that they would actually see that they are more alike then they would ever think. Just because you have a different skin color from someone else doesn’t mean that you have to look and them and treat them like gum on the bottom of your shoe.

To Kill A MockingBird.

February 1, 2007

I think that mockingbirds are the central methaphor in the book because they really do not do any harm to anyone.  All they do for you is sing to you everyday.  Why harm something that never bothered you?

I think that it represents the innsence of Boo Radley and Tom Robinson.  They didn’t do anything to anyone.  They are harmless.

The quote means that it would be a sin to kill a mockingbird because all the mockingbird does it sing for us and bring us joy.  So it would be a sin to kill one, because they never brought any sort of harm in the first place.

The incident between Scout and Uncle Jack is inportant in point of view because Uncle Jack never even bothered to ask Scout what happened.  He found out that Scout him her and automatically he was like “bad Scout” and spanked him.   He could have gotten both sides of the story before punshing one of them.

What do I think To Kill a Mockingbird will be about?

January 24, 2007

Well I have seen the movie, I do believe it will be a lot different, like most other books to movies are. I think the book will be about a man in his children living in a home with a black maid. Something drastic happens with the boy and causes a big stir in the town. There are many racial battles going on around the town. Many which will end up with someone being killed.
